Who am I?

Who are you?

It's the question Satan asked the first Adam, the question he asked the 2'nd Adam (Jesus) and it is the same question he asks you.  If you know your identity, you cannot be controlled, manipulated, and driven by lies that appear true.  If you don't know who you are, the enemy is happy to shape a false identity.  "If you want to be like God...eat this fruit."  She was already made in the likeness of God, in His image.  And to Jesus, "IF you are the Son of God....do this... and prove it."  (Genesis 3, Matthew 4)

Who am I?  If you're a Christ-ian, you are Jesus' body on the earth.  You bear His name.

Ephesians 5:29-30,32

29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.

32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

(NKJ)

If you do not know your identity you will always be searching for someone to give it to you "Who am I?",  "What am I worth?",  "What is my identity so that I can have purpose and value?"

You cannot find your value in your parents, your family, your friends, your spouse... to do so is an unhealthy, unstable relationship.  Your security and stability is then based on whether they're giving you what you need.  And if they have a bad day or get angry with you, your whole world comes down and you react in pain, insecurity, defense, anger, etc.  It's up and down because your identity is based on their approval of you.  Stability, purpose, value comes from your identity in God.  Why?  Because that is where you originate from.  You were created in the IMAGE of God. And as a Christ-ian, you are a new creation in Christ Jesus: the body of Christ.  You bear His Name.  That is your identification.  Even in your physical flesh, your body does not go by the name of Sally and your head Jessica.  No, that's stupid. Your body bears the same name as your head.  Therefore, your body's identity is connected to the name it bears.

Who are you?  If Jesus is the head, and you are His body on the earth... your identity is in the name you bear.  Your purpose is connected to your identity just like a hammer's purpose is connected to its identity as a hammer.  A “hammer” is what it is!  If Jesus is the Head and you are the body, your purpose is found in that identity.  But if you spend no time receiving messages from the Head, your movement is like that of a seizure! Separate from what the head is trying to communicate.  It is energy with no purpose.  Harmful to itself and others.

So I have a Question:  If Jesus is the head, and He is sitting at the right hand of God in Heaven, and you are Jesus' body on the earth.... how is the head and the body connected?  How can the head and the body be one flesh if they are in two different places?

Answer: The Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is like the spinal cord - the whole nervous system actually - that connects the head to the body.  The Holy Spirit is also the means through which the head communicates to the body.  That is why it is so important to spend time praying in the Spirit (tongues).  Important to spend time in communication with the head; nurturing a sensitivity to His voice.

Pointer: Reading His written word and praying in the Spirit are both vital to hearing the spoken word of God clearly.

This is the tip of an iceberg... but, if you realize your identity as the body of Christ, you will not be easily deceived (Genesis 3) You will understand your purpose, You will realize your authority, and everything begins to take on a another depth of meaning in the scriptures.

To the One who has never accepted Jesus to be the Head...

Ephesians 5:15  “See then that you walk circumspectly (eyes wide open), not as fools, but as wise,

Eph 5:16  Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Eph 5:17  Wherefore do not be unwise, but UNDERSTAND WHAT the WILL of the LORD IS.

Eph 5:18  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

You will never understand what His will is for you if you do not understand this one thing first:  He loves me (as a jewel that was sought after – before it shone) He loves me as lungs love breath... intimate.

WHAT is His will?  Foremost, it is that we be one with Him, even as your hand is one with your body.

Are all men one with God? No... Adam’s Sin is like a knife that severed us from God.  A hand that has no blood flowing to it is dead.  And it took blood to reunite us.  The right type of blood – sinless.  Jesus came to do the impossible. With His sinless blood, He made a way by which we could become one with God again.  One. Nourished and cherished as Christ’s own flesh (Ephesians 5:29-30) Understand that THAT is His will, (Connected to Him, not willing that any perish, like a hand cut off (2 Peter 3:9)) The choice is always yours, but the moments are fleeting.

Seasons. Man must choose to become one with God in this season of life; because it is a season that you have no guarantee of length. Jesus is a choice that must be made before death, otherwise that person will still be like a hand that is severed.  Man cannot enter heaven unless He is one with God.

When you become one with Him, you are then like the hand that can receive messages from the Head.  Stability, identity, purpose.  You have the ability to hear the will of God for your life regarding relationships, jobs, decisions, callings, etc.  Yours is a future planned for a body that is nourished and cherished by the Head (Eph 5:29-30). You go places together because the body cannot walk off without the Head and the Head will not abandon the body to go do something alone.  You are one and are meant to operate together. (1 Cor 12:27) Only then, is our time worth anything with significance or purpose.

How do I receive Him:

Romans 10:9-10  “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”  (NKJ)

Summary:

1. Who are you?  If you do not know your identity, there is an enemy who will twist that identity to keep you from fulfilling the purpose that is connected to your identity in Christ.  You are a threat to the enemy when you know who you are and are living your purpose out of your identity.

2.  As a Christian, you are the body of Christ.

3. The Holy Spirit sends messages from the Head to the Body.  Are you listening or doing your own thing like an arm in a seizure?

4. Your identity is a foundational issue.  Look up all the verses that have to do with "In Christ", "In Him".  Search out your identity.
