Can We Know the Will of God?

Can we know the will of God for us… or is it a mystery that is sealed up?  May I write honestly as if to a friend who has asked a question?  It has always amazed me, even as a child, how many people say, “Well, you just never know what the will of God is.”   Can that really be for true?!   It would do you no good for me to offer an opinion.  Rather, let the two of us examine scriptures that will answer for themselves.

1 Corinthians 2:9-10  But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him. But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

“Reveal” in the Webster’s Dictionary means: 1. To make known something hidden or kept secret, disclose, or divulge

John 16:13  Howbeit when he, the (Holy) Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak on his own authority; but whatever he hears, that shall he speak: and he will show you things ...

“GUIDE” in the Webster’s Dictionary:  1. To point out the way for, direct on a course  2. To give instruction, to train

The Spirit of Truth came as Jesus promised. (Acts 2:1-4,17)

I have brought to the forefront highlights in these verses for our example:

Psalms 23:1,2,3  The LORD is my shepherd…  he leads me beside the still waters… He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

“LEAD” in the Webster’s Dictionary:  1. “To show the way to, to direct the course of by going before or along with, conduct, guide

Now let me pose a question for thought…“How do you follow a Shepherd’s leading if you can’t hear Him?  Jesus, Himself, said this:

John 10:27  My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

John 10:3  To (the Shepherd) the porter opens; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calls His own sheep by name, and leads them out.

To call is to communicate. By name shows individuality.  To lead is to guide.

Psams 119:105  Your word is a (revealing) lamp unto my feet, and a (guiding) light unto my path.

Isaiah 30:21  And your ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

In conclusion, friend, there is a God who is very intimate and interested with the details of your life.  Yes, you can hear God and know His will for you.   1 John 1:3  “… and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”

It all begins when you have chosen Jesus to be your Savior, thus making God your Shepherd.  You become His and have the ability to hear Him.

If you have never chosen Jesus, ask Him to be your Savior and your Shepherd

Romans 10:9  “If you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

John 10:9  “I (Jesus) am the door.  If any man enters by Me, he shall be saved, and will go in and out, and find pasture.”

John 10:14  “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep (by name), and am known of mine.”
